    Mary Ann Monte Smith is a lifelong resident of Imperial County. She raised her two children, Matthew T. Smith and Jeanine E. Smith here in the valley. Matthew married Kristen Weekes of El Centro and the two of them have a daughter named Riley K. Smith. 
     
    Mary Ann graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1980.  She holds degrees in Business and Library Information Science.  She is employed by Imperial Valley College and has been a Library Technician for the Spencer Library Media Center for the past 15 years.  In addition to a full-time job, she sits on the Westmorland City Council as Mayor Pro Tem and Parks & Recreation Commissioner.
     
    Mary Ann’s family has lived and farmed in Imperial Valley for three generations. Her children and grandchild makes for five generations of family grown in the Imperial Valley. She has a great sense of responsibility to the future of Westmorland and Imperial Valley. “I want to be a part of making my community a desirable place to live, not only for my family, but for all its citizens.”

    Roberta Kissee was born in Brawley to the Vandiver family and grew up in Westmorland, attending the Westmorland Elementary School and then BUHS.  Roberta married Edward Kissee in 1957 and raised three children.  While raising her children, she was room mother, 4-H leader teaching sewing to many young girls at Mulberry School and Westmorland.
     
    When necessary she filled in as a driver for Edward’s combine or the diesel 2-axel truck, she had a Class A commercial driver license and a State of California Private Applicator License for restricted material.
     
    In 1991 Roberta went back to school and received her teaching Credential and was the Home Economics teacher at Calipatria High School for 10 years.  She also was a Sunday school teacher, president of Woman’s ministry providing quilts and baby clothes for those who need love and encouragement.
     
    Roberta is a member of the Westmorland Senior Citizen club, Geological Society and Desert Quilters Guild where she is membership chairman.
    In 2006 Roberta became the Westmorland’s Historian and continues in that capacity today.
    In 2008 she was the ROP Imperial County “Teacher of the Year.”
