As a result of the April 4, 2010 earthquake in Imperial Valley, several millions of dollars in damages have been identified to date. The 7.2 magnitude earthquake has left local nonprofit organizations and agencies in dire need of funds to assist the area's displaced, disadvantaged and suffering populations. This includes hundreds of families and thousands of residents that have been adversely affected by the earthquake and its aftermath. Businesses, children, families and seniors continue to suffer from the loss of or otherwise poor condition of their homes, workplaces and schools. In response to this disaster, the Imperial Valley Community Foundation has established the Imperial Valley Regional Disaster Fund to raise funds and assist in the recovery process for the Imperial Valley. The IV Regional Disaster Fund is working to raise charitable donations that will be granted to the most effective and efficient qualified 501(c) 3 organizations providing disaster relief services in the Imperial Valley. Grants will be awarded based on need, priority and successful application.The IVCF board of directors and IV Regional Disaster Fund committee, is and will continue to actively monitor the current situation, its effects and community needs. We are committed to making every effort possible to ensure that the community's immediate needs are met. If and when it is determined that victims needs have been satisfactorily met, any remaining funds and donations will be used for readiness, response and relief programs in the case of future manmade or natural disasters.
